Ceres Zipline Adventures
Ninety minutes from Cape Town, the city’s noise gives way to mountains, rock formations and a river. Hanging above all of it on a steel cable, moving fast, is one of the Western Cape’s best-loved outdoor experiences.
Ceres Zipline Adventures has been sending visitors down the mountainside since November 2010. It was the first zipline operation in the Western Cape, and it has been refining the experience ever since.
1.4 km of pure adrenaline
The tour is made up of eight zipslides, ranging from 100 to 290 metres in length. That adds up to more than 1.4 km of flying, with every slide a little different. You’ll cross over rock formations and the river, with the Skurweberg Mountains as your backdrop. The tour sits in the mountains below the Koekedouw Dam, so the scenery is as good as the rush.
The operators call it an eco-adventure that is “safe, fast and long.” Visitors seem to agree. Ceres Zipslide Adventures is rated “excellent” by 157 travellers on Tripadvisor.
Safe enough for first-timers
If you’ve never been on a zipline, the guides are who you’ll remember. One visitor wrote that he and his wife, both over 60, were doing zip lining for the first time and that “you feel safe at all times.” He praised the friendly guides, one of whom happily played photographer along the way. Another guest called the team welcoming, friendly and professional, and said the experience was the highlight of their trip.
Made for groups
The tour works well for a crowd. It suits:
- Team building and year-end functions. A company group that has flown together has something to talk about on Monday morning. One travel professional wrote that his clients were so happy that he was already lining up three more groups for the following season.
- Family outings. Big enough thrills for the teenagers, and gentle enough that the grown-ups can join in.
- Birthdays and bachelor parties. Better than another restaurant booking.
Plan your visit
Ceres Zipline Adventures is open every day of the year. Tours start at 09h00 on weekdays and 08h00 on weekends, depart every hour, and the last departure is at 15h00. It’s an easy day trip from Cape Town, or you can slot it into a longer stay in the Ceres Valley.
